Individual returns

Personal tax returns

Most individual returns are straightforward. The ones that are not usually became complicated because something in life changed — and those are the years where careful preparation actually matters.

We prepare federal and state returns, and we ask questions before we file rather than after. If something in your situation changes the answer, we would rather find it during preparation than in a notice six months later.

Small business

Business returns, with the owner's return alongside

For most small businesses, the business return and the owner's personal return are really one problem. Preparing them separately is how details get lost between them.

We handle both together so the numbers agree — K-1s flow where they should, distributions and basis are tracked, and you are not left reconciling two preparers' work at the end.

Past due & unfiled

Returns you have fallen behind on

Unfiled returns rarely stay a filing problem. Left alone they tend to become a collection problem, and the options for dealing with them narrow over time. Getting current is what reopens those options.

One year or many

We take on however many years are outstanding, and we file them in the order that makes sense rather than all at once and out of sequence.

Missing records

Most people do not still have the paperwork. We work from what can be obtained from the IRS and reconstructed from your own records.

Substitute returns

If the IRS already filed a return on your behalf, it almost certainly left out deductions you were entitled to. A correct return usually beats it.

If you also owe a balance: filing is normally the first step, not the last. Most resolution options require you to be current on filings before they are even on the table. If that is your situation, our sister company BC Tax handles resolution, and we handle the returns behind it.

Multi-year filing

Catching up, in the right order

Filing several years at once is not the same job repeated. Each year affects the next.

Carryforwards, depreciation, prior-year losses, and basis all move from one year into the following one. File them out of order or in isolation and the errors compound — which is exactly the situation people are usually trying to get out of.

  • We establish which years are actually required before preparing anything
  • Returns are prepared in sequence so carryforwards land correctly
  • You see each year before it is filed
  • You end with a complete, consistent set of records

Getting started

What we will ask you for

You do not need everything before you call. This is what a typical engagement needs once we get going.

Income documents

W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, and records of any income not reported on a form.

Business records

Income and expense totals, asset purchases, and last year's return if you have it.

Anything from the IRS

Notices and letters, even ones you have not opened. Especially those.
